MA Degree – Musicological Synthesis

The structure of the two-year M.A. curriculum provides multiple openings and ramifications. Each M.A. student is therefore able to focus on those elements of the field of musicology that he or she considers best suited to his or her academic profile: music criticism and editorial practice, systematic research into a particular genre of music (old or new, classical or pop), interdisciplinarity (connections with the visual arts, anthropology, and so on), theories of musical performance.

As soon as you have been admitted to the M.A. programme, you will have the opportunity to choose optional disciplines in the areas of musicology or ethno-musicology.

Over the course of your studies, you will be brought up to date with the latest trends in musicology as a discipline in the humanities, as well as with new media, which will give you the versatility to adapt to a wide range of careers in music. You will have the opportunity to take part in the National Musicology Competition held by the U.N.M.B., which over the years has garnered well-deserved prestige, and to publish articles, music reviews, and interviews in the pages of Acord magazine, our university’s flagship publication. Prestigious figures in the fields of musicology and composition will be there with you to share their knowledge and experience.
