BA Degree – Conducting

Orchestra Conducting • Choir Conducting

Do you have leadership skills? Are you passionate about music? Then here is the right place to develop your skills and passion. For a choir or orchestra conductor is a leader. It is the conductor who holds an intricate knowledge of the field: he or she plumbs the depths of musical theory, the subtle secrets of polyphony, harmony and musical forms; at the piano or vocally, he or she reads countless scores from every musical genre, unravels their meanings, maps out their expressive development, transforms them into music with the help of the singers and musicians with whom he or she works side by side, week after week and/or in compact seasons, in the choir or the orchestra classroom and in the laboratories that are the concert stages of the U.N.M.B.

Here, future conductors learn the alphabet of gestures and hone their ability to conduct and musically construct, in order finally to transform the notes on the stave into Music. And this whole labour of accumulating knowledge and shaping it into sound and feeling will be crowned in that place sacred to every musician: the Concert Stage. There on stage the orchestra or choir conductor makes proof of his or her gift: that of bringing music to life.
