BA Degree – Composition

Classical • Jazz • Pop

The Musical Composition syllabus is notable for the stylistic openness and diversity it fosters, providing a professional framework for free expression and creativity. The department’s teaching staff are leading figures whose music has been performed and recorded both in Romania and abroad.

Student composers are urged to define and to follow their own creative path, and they will have the opportunity to work with the professional ensembles and orchestras of the U.N.M.B. and to benefit from performances of their own work. They will also have the opportunity to take part in national and international projects (programming works at festivals, attending creative workshops, masterclasses, conferences) and to enter a wide range of creative competitions. Thanks to such projects, their composing technique will be nurtured and internalised, while other complex aspects of what it means to be a composer today will be made apparent: the creative dimension, invention and pre-compositional research, self-management and promotion, and the practical side of the profession, from organising concerts to producing orchestral scores, from analysing the structure of a concert programme to handling copyright issues.
