I spoke with the pianist Lilya Zilberstein, professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, a partner university of IN.TUNE – Innovative Universities in Music & Arts in Europe, who was present at the National University of Music in Bucharest on the occasion of a masterclass held November 17–19, about practice, success, and advice for musicians at the beginning of their careers.
Having made her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Claudio Abbado, Lilya Zilberstein has collaborated with the world’s most important orchestras and conductors, such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of La Scala Theatre in Milan, Gustavo Dudamel, James Levine, and Christoph Eschenbach.
An artist with an impressive career and a stage partner of Maxim Vengerov and Martha Argerich, Lilya Zilberstein is also a dedicated pedagogue, regularly invited to serve on the juries of major international competitions.
RICHARD BARRETT VISIT TO THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MUSIC BUCHAREST
Richard Barrett, professor at the Hague Royal Conservatoire, an IN.TUNE partner institution, visited Bucharest on December 8 and 9 and the National University of Music.
During his visit, Richard Barrett held masterclasses dedicated to improvisation techniques in the electroacoustic environment, offering students the opportunity to work with one of the genre’s leading figures.
We spoke to Mr. Barrett about his visit to UNMB, improvisation, and the connection between genetics and music.
