MA Degree – Jazz and Pop Music Cultures
Jazz Composition Qualification • Pop Music Composition Qualification
The two-year M.A. in Jazz and Pop Music Cultures takes students on a complex and ambitious educational journey. Students are encouraged and taught to create their own methods of developing within the profession, to absorb new techniques and languages, to seek out opportunities to showcase their own works, and above all to stimulate their creativity through projects that represent their own musical personality.
The programme has been designed as a training internship to shape artists with distinct personalities and a conscious freedom of expression, who will be able to work together among themselves effectively, to assess difficult situations, and to co-ordinate teams and original project concepts. This is actually also a possible photofit picture of somebody who is serious about practising the art of performance.
Joint projects each term, supervised by individual students taking turns, represent one of the methods whereby we aim to achieve these goals. In addition to taking specialist courses, students will also augment their musical knowledge via complementary courses which often have an interdisciplinary aspect to them.
