Combining the tradition with modernity, our faculty offers three specialization: composition (including jazz – music), musicology, music teaching, orchestra conducting and academic / religious choral music.
Our faculty has passed through a transition period, following the effort to rally to the European higher education as a result of Bologna Convention.

The academic cycles are as follows:
- Bachelor’s degree course for six semesters (music teaching, religious music) and eight semesters (composition, musicology, orchestra conducting and academic choir conducting) which ends with the diploma of “License of Music.” Specialization, disciplines and number of credits earned by students during the university courses are listed in the Diploma Supplement (DS).

Since the academic year 2001- 02, our faculty has applied the credit system (ECTS) for all the disciplines and specialties which allows the recognition of the studies attended by any scholar in a partner institution.
Pedagogical music attracts each year a significant number of talented young people. They are trained to become teachers of music, to direct choral, instrumental and vocal-instrumental ensemble, to organize the musical life of organizations and communities.
For those who wish to obtain the status of teachers of music and teach in the general education system, the Teachers’ Training Department (DPPD) offers a module (unit of pedagogical training) comprising a number of psycho-pedagogical disciplines and school management. This module is compulsory within the pedagogical specialization and optional for any other specialization offered by the National University of Music Bucharest.
